Hewson, who is 34 years old and an actress herself, reflects on her unique upbringing as a "nepo baby," alternating between the glamorous world of touring with her famous father and the mundane routines of school life. This dichotomy, she suggests, has equipped her with a remarkable ability to manage the highs and lows of fame.
"You go away and have a sort of unbelievable fantasy life," she describes the experience of touring with her dad. "And then you come back and take the train to school in the rain and see your friends and do your homework. I make all these friendships with these people for six months and then go back to my regular life. I think it set me up for being able to manage it."
Her journey into the entertainment industry also comes with its own set of challenges. As the daughter of a famous figure, she has had to navigate the delicate balance between leveraging her family's influence and proving her worth as a talented individual. "It was just, like, people really don't take you seriously," she admits, highlighting the struggle of being taken seriously in a competitive industry.
"When you're going into castings and meeting with directors, you can really feel that. So you have to power through," she says. "It's definitely easier to get into the business, harder to be taken seriously. And that's fine."
Despite the challenges, Hewson's perspective on fame is refreshingly candid. She argues that wanting to be famous is "the dumbest thing on the planet," citing the loss of privacy and the constant exposure to criticism as significant drawbacks. "You're losing all your privacy. You're putting yourself up for so much criticism. I don't know why we celebrate it so much," she asserts.
However, her passion for acting and the sense of community she found on film sets have kept her grounded. "I got to spend two weeks on this movie set and that was it," she recalls about her time filming The 27 Club. "I had one mission in life and it was to be an actor. I think it was the community feeling of everybody working really hard on one thing. We're all working on this thing we care about. Everyone's creative. Everyone has a voice."
Hewson's story serves as a reminder that fame, while often romanticized, can come with a complex web of emotions and experiences. Her ability to navigate these complexities with a level head and a strong sense of self is a testament to her resilience and determination.
